Poem

For writing this week we had to create a growing poem. A growing problem is when the first line is one syllable, second line is two syllables, third line is three syllables and so on. Here is my growing poem about golf.

I enjoy making growing poems because they are easy and quick to create. I also found it challenging making sure the syllables are right. Have you created a growing problem before? What was it about?

Lockdown Life

 This Lockdown me and my family has been building a new house it has only just started and it already looks cool. This week we are doing the concrete floor for our house it is so cool. Here is some photos.

I enjoy building house with my dad it fun when I grow up I want to be a builder like my dad. I also find it challenging because you use lots of different tools and measurements and sometimes you forget what you're doing. Have you ever helped build a house before? Was it fun or boring?

This week we are learning about measurement. Today we were learning about the area of a triangle and different kinds of triangles.  Then we had to create a poster about how to figure out how to solve equations we got. Here it is.

I enjoyed this house because measurement and maths I want to my favourite things to do. I also found it challenging in some equations because you use decimals.

Maths Escape Room

This week we had online maths escape room that we could do it was so fun. We had maths equations that we had to figure out and the answer of that question would equal to a letter. At the end it will spell a sentence. Here is mine.

I enjoy this task because at the end we got a prize if we completed it right. I did not find it challenging they was pretty easy equations.

Weekend

 Last weekend me and my family played Monopoly. It went for nearly 3 hours and my mum won. It was really fun to spend time good quality with my family. Also while we in lockdown we got seed to start our vegetable garden. So we started planting seeds it was so fun.

Writing

For this weeks writing we had to create a piece of writing about a photo that a teacher gave us. The photo was about a motorbike race. We had questions and a story start to get us on our way. Here is mine.

The Race


His heart was racing as he came over the crest of the hill. He knew he had to win this race or his career was over. Mud flicked up from the other races and hit his helmet. He was behind, he had to speed up there was only 7 laps to go. As he came around the corner where I was sitting and you could see a glimpse of determination in his eyes. He was zig-zagging through the other racers when he crashed. “Nooooooooo!” I yelled. This was it, his career was over. He got up and kept going, but it was too late and he was lapped by the leader.

He thought to him-self never to give up and to push forwards. He guided the dirt bike through the rough and muddy terrain using his knowledge that he got from his grandfather. He was now tailing the leader that had overtaken him. The leader had the speed wobbles allowing him to overtake and catch up on the others. He was gaining on the trailing group, but only had 5 laps to go. He came to a corner and took the inside route passing the trailing group.

He was gaining speed, but he had to control it or he was going to get the speed wobbles. There was only one more group than the leader and 3 laps to go. I thought to myself there is not much time. His career was going to be over. At that moment, he overtook the group in front of him. “ Yesssss ” I screamed. He might make it. There was only the leader left. 2 laps to go.

With hardly any time left, he had to stop thinking about his career and just win. He was only just gaining. Then he heard the bell for the final lap. He did an amazing jump over the final hill, landing just behind the leader. As he catches up to him and just as he goes past he hears a loud scream. He looks back and sees the leader crash and fly through the air. Should he stop for the leader or continue on to win? Something comes over him and he stops for the leader and helps him get back on his bike, allowing him to win. “ Noooooo.” I yelled. His career is over. He came in second place.

As he stood up on the podium, he shook his head. He had to accept that he had come second and that he would have to find something else to occupy his time. As the first place trophy was given out, the leader turned and said “After helping me today finished the race, I think this trophy should be yours!” He smiled and thanked him, knowing that he still has a chance of becoming the World's Best Dirt Bike Rider. I knew my grandson could become one of the best. The End

Lemon Curd

Lemon Curd

Today I made lemon curd. It was so fun and it tasted great. Lemon curd is originally English dating back to the early 1800’s. Here is the recipe I used. Perfect Lemon Curd Recipe The lemon curd I made I used on my toast for breakfast.



It was not a challenging recipe. It took only half an hour and made 1 2/3 of a cup. I really enjoyed making lemon curd I really want to make it again.

Letter

 Yesterday for a writing task, we had to create a letter to send to a friend or a family member. It didn't matter what the letter was about. My letter I sent to my friend Tanie he was my friends since we were born. Here is my letter.

Dear Tanie,

Since the day we met each other, when you were born we were best friends. I remember when you were just born and I was bigger than you, but ever since then you have always been bigger than me. This letter is about saying thank you to my friend. I’ll always trust you.

Writing

This this week for writing we had to create a narrative piece of writing about a prompt our teacher gave us. The prompt was a photo of a bird dreaming. the teacher gave us questions that we're to answer in the story. What was the bird dreaming about? What feelings did the bird have? and more. Here is my piece of writing: 

Bird Dreams


As the bird closes his eyes he begins to dream that one day he would grow up to become a big eagle flying through white fluffy clouds. Since he was a baby the little canary wanted to be an eagle, but he was trapped in his little bird cage and there was no way to get out. Day after day his owner did the same routine and fed him the same food.


Then one day his owner wasn't here and a little boy came to feed the little canary and shut the door. The little canary thought something was wrong, the door didn’t look latched. He was intrigued to discover what was beyond the cage. So he bumped his head into the cage door and the door flung open. He was now free to go wherever he wanted to fly.


The first thing he wanted to do was soar through the white fluffy clouds just like the eagle he always wanted to be. He found a way out of the smallest window in the apartment which was above the toilet. Then he flew high above the rooftops taking in the fresh air. He followed this amazing scent to the park where he found pigeons. He always hated pigeons. They used to annoy him through the window when he was little, trapped in his cage. How could he get back to the safety of his home caught and bullied by mean pigeons.


The little canary thought there was no way back and just to surrender. He closed his eyes and remembered his dream of flying high in the clouds like an eagle. So he flew up into the clouds and the pigeons chased him, they were right on his tail when he zig zagged through a cloud and lost one of the weird pigeons. Two left. He flew up then straight down under a cloud and lost another one. One more to lose. He navigated the clouds and trees making his way back home. The little canary squeezed into the toilet window and because the pigeon was fat it couldn't get through the gap and the little canary was safe back home.


With his heartbeat racing he flew into his cage feeling safe away from danger. He thought about the big wide world and decided he was safe here in his little cage. He closed his eyes and remembered the dream one more time thinking he doesn’t have to be big to have a great life. The End

Today in lockdown we learnt about long and short division. We were then given 8 equations to work out following the examples that my teacher had given my class on our class site. Here is what I did:

I found that short division is easy for me than long division because it is quicker and takes up less space working out.

Writing

 For writing this week we had to write a story about the holidays. I wrote a story about my trip to Taupo and Wairakei. Here is my writing:

My Holiday




In the first week of the school holidays, me and my family went to Taupo and Wairakei. 

We stayed at the Wairakei Resort that had tennis courts, squash courts, a 9-hole golf course and three hot pools. It was so exciting.


Monday 12th July

On Monday we went into Taupo and we're looking around at the shops. We went to lunch at Dixie browns in Taupo, it was so good.


Tuesday 13th July

On Tuesday morning we went into Taupo to drop my mum and my sister at their spa day. Then my dad and I went to the Taupo hole in one challenge. My dad and I were so close to winning $10,000 thousand dollars.


Wednesday 14th July

On Wednesday we played some tennis and some golf at the Resort golf course. Then we went for a swim and then went out for dinner at Cobb & Co.


Thursday 15th July

On Thursday we went and played golf at the 9-hole golf course. Then we went to Kinloch and Whakamaru to see my family and to see where my dad grew up.


Friday 16th July

On Friday we relaxed and had a swim in the hot pool, it was so good. Then after that we went to Lone Star for Dinner. And this was my trip to Taupo.

Book review

Last week I read a Roald Dahl book " Danny the champion of the world ". That book is one of my favourite books. I like how it tells you about Danny's life and how he was raised. I recommend reading the Roald Dahl books because they are exciting an enjoyable. 

I enjoyed reading this book because it's one of my favourite and I read it over 20 times. I like to read the Roald Dahl books there is over 20 different kinds of books, but this one is my favourite.

Maths Task

 W.A.L.T upload my maths task and write about it.

For today's maths task we created maths riddle. We use two sets of maths questions. One was symbols and one was numbers or letters. Each set of questions had a matching answer. You had to use those answers to figure out the main riddle. Here is my riddle

One thing I could improve on is making hard questions to challenge you guys. One thing I found challenging was to get a riddle I couldn't find one so I had to use a fact. One thing I enjoyed is making posters because that is my favourite thing to do on a device.

Narrative Writing

 W.A.L.T edit and re-craft our narrative writing.

This we started a piece of narrative writing. We started off  by making a plan and organising the paragraphs. Then we started writing out introduction and introducing the problem to the story. After that we finished writing about the problem and finished writing resolution. Here is my Story:

The Creepy Jog

On a cold foggy day I hopped out of my 70’s camper-van and went for a morning jog when I stumbled upon a fox, but this fox didn't run away. I thought to myself, I’ve seen this fox before. I remember the thick golden fur with white spots.

Then I heard a creepy whisper, I looked around and there was no one there. It could only be the fox. I heard that voice again and it was the fox. It sounded like my brother, but my brother died years ago.

The fox suddenly bit my leg and dragged me into a tunnel. The tunnel was dark with cobwebs that hung down from the roof. I sat down and he told me everything, that he was getting hunted by poachers. There were two that had shotguns and dogs that were violent.

That night when the poachers came out to hunt I was ready to protect the frightened fox. The poachers came to find the fox, but the fox wasn’t there, only the police. The police arrested the men for illegal hunting. After that I took the fox home and kept him as a pet… TO BE CONTINUED

I really enjoy writing narratives because I get to use my imagination to write a cool and interesting story. Next time I could improve on is writing more descriptively and using descriptive vocabulary to make my writing more interesting.

Something that i like to do

 One thing I loved to do is golf. I try and play golf once a week with my dad. My dad introduce me to golf when I was 8 years old. Now I am 11 years old, I've played a few tournaments and one of those tournaments by came second. I have membership at Carrington golf course.

 For reading this week we did the same rotations that we did last week. It is where we read two books and then answer questions about those books. After that we create a screencastify that tells you about tidal energy. Here is mine:

I am joy this task because reading books is fun. I also enjoy doing the questions because the questions were easy. I found that creating the screencastify is hard because I had to create for a year 3.

Cybersmart week 1 term 2

This week for cyber smart we did a quiz about what we learnt in the last term. It was really fun and I came fifth. Then afterwards we learnt about online footprints and how they have an effect in your future. For our task we how to create an safe online profile about yourself. Here is mine: 

I enjoyed this task because I got to tell about myself and say my hobbies. It was also challenging because I forgot what my favourite animal was. I could improve on many things but one of them is describing more about myself.  Hopefully we get another fun task next week.

 To start the first week in term two for reading we had to read 2 books and then complete questions about that book then we had to create a screencastify that shows you what we have learnt about hydropower. Here is my screencastify.

I really enjoyed this new rotation I would like to do the next week. It was challenging but that made it fun.

Cybersmart week 3

 W.A.L.T use the hyperlink shortcut.

last week we had Cybersmart. instead of having tasks to do we had to create a quiz on Google slides about shortcuts. We had to have at least 5 questions and have them hyperlink to the right slides. We had to use different shortcut for the question. Here is mine:

This task was really fun because I love making quizzes to test my friends and the knowledge. This wasn't challenging for me because I've created quizzes before on Google slides.

Cybersmart week 2

W.A.L.T learn about shortcuts.

 A few weeks ago we did Cybersmart tasks about the Digital dig. The digital dig is is a Cybersmart task that we complete with shortcuts. We did activities using shortcuts especially screenshots . Then we had to create a poster on Google drawing about one of the shortcuts that we used.

This task was fun because I got to use shortcuts that I've never used before. I also found it challenging because I was confusing which button to push.

Cybersmart week 1

W.A.L.T learn about the Kawa of care.

 A few weeks ago we did Cybersmart tasks about the Kawa of care. The Kawa of care is is a letter that you sign to promise that you'll look after your Chromebook, so you don't disrespect your Chromebook. We did 5 activities about the Kawa of care and and how you respect it. then we had to create a poster on Google drawing about one of the reasons on the Kawa of care.

This task was fun because I got to use my imagination to create the poster. There lots of things challenging but one thing that was especially challenging was listing the 8 top Kawa of care statements for looking after your device.

10! 9! 8! 7! 6! 5! 4! 3! 2! 1! Blast off! The gas thrusters sound like a V8 engine on the stat line waiting for the green light. “Titania here we come” Yelled Jake. He was sitting next to Lucas and was very nervous because it was his 40th birthday and he wouldn't be able to see his family … 3 months later. “Houston we have a problem” “we are running out of oxygen “ “ we have about half an hour left of oxygen” “can you hear me” “I repeat can you hear me” Yelled Lucas into the radio. Jake starts to look around for the cause of the problem. Then out of the corner of Jakes eye he saw a little critter chewing on the oxygen tube. “Ah Ha” said Jake. Jake grabs the little critter and Lucas fixes the air leak. They have oxygen again. “This can be a pet” “lets name him chomper”. Asked Jake. “Ha that's a good one” said Lucas “Look Titania” “perfect timing” said Jake. “What for” asked Lucas. “Your birthday”

How do animals find food?

 For reading we had to do a task about how animals find food ? Here it is:

Unistructural 

the purpose of the story is how animals find food what words does a does the author used to describe the event and story descriptive words 

the characters are animals and all shapes and sizes the cities are in the water coral reef and grassland, Lakes, trees, Rivers, swamps, Forest and Savannah's.

Multistructural  

How they find food what are the differences in the animals and what are the similar differences what food they eat and food chains

what are some things you remember from the text all living things need energy to survive to get food animals may   hunt in grasslands dive deep or catch food in ear animals adapt to changing climates very fast.

Relational

The blue tongue lizard is similar to the bullfrog because they have the same technique to catch food. They sit and wait then when the time is ready the tongue lunges out and grabs the food. They are also reptiles which means cold blooded animals.

Decimal Quiz

Red Hot Racers

 For reading we had to read the book " Red Hot Racers ". Then for the task we had to answer questions and summarise the three main points of the story. Then we had to create our own race car on Google drawing with shapes. This is my work:

Uni-structural: What is the purpose of this story? The purpose of this story is learning about how to make a super light car powered by carbon dioxide. The author uses descriptive words to describe the events in action. The characters are Louise Alex

Multi-structural: the car needs to be in a special shape to stop in drag. Some cars, especially racing cars have an aerofoil (spoiler) on the back to help reduce the lift. a well built mini dragster can rocket along speeds at of 100 kilometres per hour  

Relational: Anything that moves through air is affected by aerodynamics, from a rocket blasting off, to a kite flying Since they are surrounded by air, even cars are affected by aerodynamics. What Are the Four Forces of Flight These forces make an object move up and down, and faster or slower

Return of the Moa

For my reading task this week we had to summarise and answer questions about the book " Return of the Moa " This book is about scientist in New Zealand that want to try and bring back animals from Extinction. Here is my work:

Uni structural: What is the purpose of the story?

The purpose of the story is to let people know that scientists can bring back animals such as the moa back from extinction. What words does the author use to describe events and actions? DNA and De-extinction. What are the settings and characters? Washington DC, Museum, Bush walk. Characters: Scientist and Moa.

Multi structural: The scientists believe that they can bring back animals from extinction, especially the Moa all they need is DNA. Although scientists are quite determined to bring the Moa out of extinction, others are second guessing this experiment and its behavioural changes in the wild.

Relational: Palaeeudyptes Klekowskii Penguin is extinct like the Moa. The Moa went extinct in 1445 in the 17th century, but the Palaeeudyptes Klekowskii went extinct in 37 - 40 million years ago. Polynesians arrived at about in the 1300’s , and all the Moa were sadly driven to extinction by hunting and, to a more insignificant, by habitat cutback due to forest clearance. By 1445, all moa had become extinct, along with the Hast eagle, which had relied on them for food.

Spelling Term One

 

Spelling is different this year because we have different Teacher. It is different because I have to do the definition of my spelling words and then I got to put them in a sentence.  On an average I am getting 6 to 8, but on week four I got none because I was absent. I think I did good in term one, but next term I am going to aim high if I practice. One thing I can work on is trying to get this done earlier because I leave it to the last day.
