Last week the year 5 - 6's went to Aroha Island for our end-of-year camp. The teachers had a lot planned for us and we were so excited about camping in tents because the last few years at camp we would sleep in cabins. Going to Aroha Island makes us experience the true outdoors and interact with a different environment. Aroha Island is a little island that has an narrow causeway to get there. You get greeted by many native birds and trees like Tuis, fantails, kererus, pohutakawa, totara and at night you can see kiwis if your lucky.

Last week we started to learn about poems. The poem that we learnt about were Limerick poems. We learnt that the 1,2 and 5 line have to rhyme and have 8 - 10 syllables. The 3 and 4 line have to rhyme and have 5 - 6 syllables. My limerick poem is about tennis here it is.
I really enjoyed making the poems it is really fun I like how it rhymes and its funny. I learnt some poems have syllables and I didn't know that before. I found trying to rhyme really challenging because you couldn't think a rhyming words.

Last week we started a inquiry task to make brochure about Maitai Bay. We had to include what you can do there?, How to get there?, what recreational activities you can do there?, what marine life lives there? and information about the rahui that the local hapu put there to bring back the marine life.

Today we had Kiwi Can. Our focus for this term is respect. The catchphrase for today was : We respect our school, we do it because we're cool. At Kiwi Can today we played to games, the games we played were So, Ma, Ca, lo and Snap, Crackle, Pop. To play Snap, Crackle, Pop. First you get into a group of three and name who's Snap, Crackle and Pop. Then someone says Pop the person who is Pop runs and the other two people grab one each other's legs in the person run has to go under they legs and grab the shoe.
At Kiwi Can today I showed respect by saying good job when we finish the game. I enjoyed learning the new games today at Kiwi Can I can't wait to play a different game next time. One thing that I could improve on next time is showing more respect so I can get Kiwi Caners.
